Here are 5Ā things that MUST happen if you’re going to succeed as a professional copywriter ... and reach your professional and personal goals.

ONE. You must be able to write copy at the ā€œelite levelā€ so your copy is better that AI-generated copyĀ ... this must happen every time you work on a project.Ā OK and mediocre won’t cut it.

Your copy must be consistently excellent. You might be a direct response copywriter. You might be a branding copywriter. You might be a content writer. You might be a corporate copywriter.

Whatever your copywriting role, your copy must be consistently excellent and better than AI copy. The quality of your work will place you in the ā€œeliteā€ level and your value to your organization will skyrocket.

THE GOOD … You can learn an enormous amount from the great books about marketing and copywriting. It’s a great way to learn. Many of the world’s top copywriters, advertising legends, and direct marketers have thankfully written awesome books about copywriting.

THE BAD … You have to read and digest all these books and this can take 2-4 years. You also have to know which books to read and in which order. There are some great books … but some awful ones.

THE UGLY. Nothing … it’s slow but powerful. I'm constantly reading the great books.

OPTION TWO ... CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS

Ā 

THE GOOD … Excellent copywriters sometimes teach at these events. Most events are a lot of fun and you travel to a pleasant location. The AWAI Bootcamp takes place in Delray Beach and I love Delray Beach.

THE BAD … The excellent copywriters will speak for about 45 minutes. How much will you learn? Many events are pitch-fests where people will try to sell you something instead of providing valuable information.

THE UGLY. The huge cost. Upwards of $10,000 to attend including your travel, time, and sundry expenses.

OPTION THREE ... MANUALS, DVDs, AND RELATED MATERIALS

Ā 

THE GOOD … Some excellent material is available. There’s a manual I especially like. I’ve got some DVDs that provide great info.

THE BAD … Limited scope … usually a couple of hours of instruction and that’s it. Plus the quality can range from really horrible to excellent. How can you tell the difference?

THE UGLY. Difficult to tell which material will be worthwhile. 10% of this material is good; the rest is poor. Some of it can be extremely expensive … upwards of $8,000.

My second favorite learning option: the great books about copywriting. My favorite is "look over my shoulder" videos.

OPTION FOUR ... VIDEO TRAINING

THE GOOD … Can provide some excellent training. It's the best way for me to learn.

THE BAD … Very few products offer ā€œlook over my shoulderā€ video training. This type of training is highly effective.

THE UGLY. What’s out there can be extremely expensive … with the exception of The Aspen School of Copywriting … details and pricing below. Yes … I’m biased but I highly recommend this method.
